I was so with you until the extreme narrative emerged about Elvis “stole” music from black artists. He loved and breathed it. Without his homage and obsession with black folk music and the blues, much of the eventual true birth of democracy might never have taken place. I would have loved it anyway, but brothers and sisters, if you think you got white supremacy problems now, without Elvis to bang on, you got zip. I love this substack post. Cheers! (I loved back in like maybe, 2005, American Idol wanted Mary J Blige to sing an Elvis tune. Her reply was “wasn’t he a racist?”) I love that honesty and her generation’s opportunity to explore what that means. I have no doubt Ms Mary J has so many answers since that time. Keep writing!!!
