Editorial:
This is a quick reminder that Cinema Club #2 is now live. Also, our Holiday Flash Sale ends on January 1st, after that the next one is December 2023.
Hi, after discussing this over the course of two months, we have decided it’s time for a change. Below are the why, the how, and the overall change.
The Why:
The past year we have attempted to increase our presence outside of Twitter and quickly realized, it’s hard to be everything everywhere all at once in regards to staying active on every social platform.
Last Year around this same time, Alisha Mughal and Veronica Phillips joined our Newsletter team. They gave our Substack new life, but because they are super awesome they are now the core of our publication and our main reviewers. They generally have complete freedom to pitch and write about whatever crosses their mind for our site. Therefore, we would love for Alisha and Veronica to continue what they are doing while we implement more familiarity and identity in our work.
The How:
We would like to introduce several new additions to the Substack mainly for our paid subscribers, and then after 3 months (usually less) they will go to the main site as free reads. This is a fun idea to allow Alisha and Veronica to still stand out as our core while we build around them. This will allow Alisha and Veronica to take their time on Substack pieces, while we still have something going out to you every week or two.
After voting, these are the new changes we are introducing to our Substack:
ICYMI:
In Case You Missed It is something we have been running the last month or two. We publish a lot of great writing on the site, and sometimes I miss it, so this is a great way to make a Substack post highlighting new reads on our site, our plans for the week, and other cool tidbits like new releases. Our ICYMI Substack pieces will go out several times a week for every subscriber.
Film Peaks:
Have you ever watched a film and just obsessed over a certain scene or character action? For example, I often think about the scene in Top Gun: Maverick where Tom Cruise hits Mach 10 but keeps going.
With film peaks, writers will be able to write about these scenes and moments in a tightly written essay. These pieces can be on recent releases or older films. Film Peaks is designed to encourage discussion, increase diversity in our writers, and place a new lens on a film many have watched. Film Peaks Substack pieces will go out a few times a month and are mainly for our Paid Subscribers.
The Return:
Often times you see on Letterboxd where a person will quite literally log the same movie several times in a row, other times you will see they watched a movie more than twice within the year. The Return is a new Film Daze series where we or guest writers write about a movie they keep returning to. This is mainly for older films and past releases. The Return Substack Pieces are mainly for our Paid Subscribers.
The Conversation:
People keep asking, are we doing a podcast, and the answer is yes…kinda. The Conversation will feature Two writers (sometimes more) having an open talk via writing/podcast about a film or series they recently watched. If in podcast form, the length will never exceed 60 minutes. Some of these will be made available to every Subscriber and bonus episodes will go to our Paid Subscribers.
The Change:
Overall, These ideas will allow our readers to have something to look forward to every week or so, but allow future writers to narrow down their approach to pitching to us.
If you are interested in pitching to us, here is our Submission page. We emphasize you read over it before pitching.
Over the next weeks, you will see more changes implemented across our social media and Substack to make room for the new additions.
Sincerely,
FD

Excited for these changes! They sound great and I'm looking forward to reading and potentially pitching for them!
